Race laces can be a race saver.  Not only do they enable you to slip quickly into your running shoes before a running race, or in T1 during a triathlon, but they also significantly reduce the chance of your shoe lace coming undone during the actual race.  Prior to the 2011 TC 10km race Coach Bob had double knotted his shoe laces yet one become undone a few kms into the race and he had to pull over and frantically retie the left one.  Later on his right shoe lace started feeling loose but luckily it didn’t come untied!  In reviewing the post-race results for his age group it became clear that he missed 3rd place by only a couple of seconds.  Had he been wearing his race laces the outcome would have been very different!!  Big lesson learned.
